Great Book Swaps are a simple fundraising activity run in schools right across Australia to help raise important funds for literacy for children in remote Australia. On Monday, 7 September, 470 children at a remarkable school in NSW, won a visit from ABC Playschool’s and ILF’s ambassador, Justine Clarke. Joined by the Hon. Victor Dominello, MP, for Ryde, Justine congratulated the Principal Kim Lloyd-Jones, Teacher-Librarian Jo Armstrong and West Ryde Public School on their active role in helping to raise funds that bought books for Indigenous children in remote communities across Australia.
As well as talking about the Foundation’s work, Justine entertained the students by singing a number of favourites such as Watermelon and Dinosaur Roar. At the end of the assembly, Justine won many hearts by signing autographs and talking to her young fans.
Schools across Australia can still hold and participate in a Great Book Swap this year.
