This week ILF Lifetime Ambassador Alison Lester and musician/ teacher Chris Aitken are out in Yakanarra Community in the Kimberley region of WA. Our 'Yakanarra Song Book' — Community Literacy Project—will be a collection of old and new songs in both Walmajarri and English.
Mary Vanbee and Jessie Moora, two local elders and teachers, initiated this project on our visit to the community back in 2013.
The kids of Yakanarra Community School will produce four new songs and illustrations with the assistance of Chris & Alison over the weeklong trip.
