On 25 September 2012 the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) held the very successful One Word One Day Art Auction, raising over $13,500. ABC Radio's Richard Glover was MC and he talked about the escape that books have provided for him personally. ILF Ambassador David Malouf and Angelo Loukakis, CEO of the ASA, both addressed the crowd. The foyer of the ABC Studio buzzed with eager bidders and James Hendy of Bonhams auctioned off every single artwork.
Our thanks to the ASA, particularly Laurine Croasdale, for all the hard work that went into organising not only the auction itself but the events leading up to it. Thanks also to the artists who so generously donated their artwork and time, to all the volunteers and to Micador and the ABC Studio.
The artworks that were sold on the night came from a series of One Word, One Day events. These were held in each state throughout the year, and artists were invited to come along and create pieces inspired by a word they were given on the day. Read more about the events here.
Sadami Konchi, one of the artists who attended One Word, One Day in Sydney, came to the auction and painted a watercolour of James Hendy as he auctioned off 70 artworks.
