Normanton Plans to Celebrate ILD

Normanton Plans to Celebrate ILD

Dear Indigenous Literacy Foundation,

I would like to thank you so very much for the amazing books you have donated to us. I absolutely loved the books you have sent especially the ones that have been written by and illustrated by the children from different communities they are wonderful.

The Parent and Community Engagement (PaCE) team is very excited to be celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day with the children of Normanton, on Wednesday 3rd September. PaCE has organised a breakfast at Carpentaria Kindy and will be donating to the Kindy some of the books for their reading times seasons. We have invited the parents to be a part of this and read with their children.

Wednesday afternoon PaCE holds a homework group with parents and students. Instead of our usual homework and cooking we will be staying at the School having an afternoon BBQ and reading with the children.

On Tuesday of every week Medicare Local holds a Play group for children from 0 to 4 with parents or career’s. PaCE participates in this every week playing games and reading with the children; PaCE is going to go and celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day with them on the Tuesday 2nd September by taking some books for those young children and reading with them and their parents/careers.

PaCE is also trying to organise a reading group with children and parents one day a week so we will be able to use these other books as part of this.

We have been also discussing with the Kindy to organise a day with some of the elder’s of the community to come and do some story time with the children.

Once again PaCE and the children of Normanton would like to thank you very much all of these books

Kindest Regards,

Thalia Elliott

PaCE Coordinator
