New partnership with Disney!

We are very excited to announce a new partnership with The Walt Disney Company and Parragon that will ensure communities in remote Australia will be offered more books in the 2018 Book Supply program. Every book sold from a new series, Little Treasures from today until 12 March this year, Disney and Parragon will be generously donating one book to the program!

With the goal of donating up to 50,000 books, this exciting new initiative will assist us in continuing our important work in bolstering the literacy levels of the remotest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. Low literacy levels have a significant impact on Indigenous communities today with those that are the most remote being the most disadvantaged. Last December, the 2016 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) Report showed that compared to 91 per cent of non-Indigenous students, only one quarter of Indigenous Year 5 students in very remote areas were at or above the national minimum standard for reading.

Our Foundation's method to improve literacy levels starts at a community level.

ILF’s Book Supply program plays an important role in providing the building blocks to encouraging reading behaviours, so children in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities can enter school with confidence, and have a strong foundation from which their love of literacy can grow. Like a great oral story, a great book can engage, excite and inspire a child.

Kylie Watson-Wheeler, Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand says, “Learning to read starts with a book, and books unlock a world of possibilities through the magic of storytelling. We’re delighted to be working with Parragon to contribute to the ILF’s important work.”
