Jessica Mauboy, ILF's newest ambassador, will perform at this year's Indigenous Literacy Day event at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday 2 September.
Indigenous Literacy Day focuses on raising awareness of Indigenous literacy and the urgent need for children of all ages living in remote Indigenous communities to have access to books and other literacy resources. It is celebrated by schools, libraries, bookshops, and workplaces around Australia who hold Great Book Swaps or other fundraisers.
This year's event will be hosted by NITV's news reader Natalie Ahmat and will feature four young storytellers from Milikapti school on Melville Island. This will be the young student's first trip to Sydney and their first reading from a new book released later in September.
Indigenous Literacy Day at the Opera House will be hosted by NITV's news reader Natalie Ahmat together with ILF's ambassadors including:Deborah Cheetham, Ursula Yovich, Alison Lester and Justine Clarke.
