Wherever you are in Australia, and whatever you have planned, we hope you are celebrating this special day in our Foundation's calendar to help raise funds to put books into the hands of children and families in communities in remote Australia.
In Sydney, there are two huge events happening, as well as countless Great Book Swaps in schools, libraries and businesses, all across the metropolitan area.
At the Sydney Opera House, several hundred school children from over 30 schools are joining us for a Great Book Swap and to hear written and song performances from much loved singers and actors William Barton, Jessica Mauboy, Justine Clark, Ursula Yovich and Deborah Cheetham – all of whom are dedicated and inspiring ambassadors for ILF.
Popular children's author Alison Lester will also take the stage, along with a group of students who have travelled all the way from the Tiwi Islands to launch their book No Way Yirripayi!
Over on the other side of Circular Quay, at the MCA, kids and grown-ups alike will take part in another enormous gold coin Great Book Swap. By lunchtime, the Botanic Gardens might well be full of people reading their new books. What better way to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day!
