Cycling for Literacy

Cycling for Literacy

Last weekend was the Asia Pacific Bike Ride, an international charity event run by Societe Generale to raise funds and awareness for our Foundation. The Asia Pacific Bike Ride is the Societe Generale annual fundraising event for their charity partners, in which colleagues from across the region participate in a two-day cycling event. This year, we are thrilled to be their supported charity.

ILF Board Member Sharon Galleguillos and ILF Program Coordinator Cindy Manfong headed up to the Blue Mountains on Saturday to support participants from Hong Kong, UK, Singapore, Japan, India and China in the two-day cycling challenge. Welcomed by Warwick Jones, Director of Events and Sponsorhsip Asia Pacific and Toby Lawson, Head of Financial Institutions Australia Société Générale, they attended a function to thank the 136 cyclists who travelled from across the world to participate in the Asia Pacific Bike Ride in the Blue Mountains. Sharon spoke about the important work our Foundation does in addressing literacy rates in remote communities and said that it was inspiring to see how much everyone acknowledged and valued literacy as the key to opening the door to education, work and well being.

Societe Generale has been an incredible support for our Foundation, through various fundraising activties and participating donors. Employees from Societe Generale also supported us on Indigenous Literacy Day with volunteers at the Sydney Opera House event.

We are extremely thankful for this support and are excited about what impact the generous funds will have on the remote communities we support.

Sharon, Toby and Cindy.
