Books Become Art then Literacy
An interesting donation came in this month from Dr Brigita Ozolins, who created
an installation that incorporated around 30,000 books. Dr Ozolins’ art exhibition
ran for 3 months at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and was appropriately titled
'The Reading Room'. It was a large room lined with books and comfortable chairs,
and a video of over 100 Tasmanians reading a passage from a favourite novel projected
onto the wall. When the time came to dismantle the artwork Dr Ozolins held a book
sale with the leftover books, raising $2,100.

UTS Donation
On October 25, Board Member David Gaunt attended the UTS launch for Indigenous Education
and Employment Policy to receive a donation. The University has generously given
the $5,000 that would have been spent on Christmas cards, as it now sends all seasons
greetings electronically. Mr Gaunt said that it was inspiring to know how UTS has
integrated its aims to embed Indigenous education into broader educational sphere.
