The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is working in partnership with Education Queensland
on a new initiative called I Dream, launched in 50 schools in Queensland in March
2011.
I DREAM: Treasures at My Place focused on the themes of home, family and
country, examining why these are important to a sense of wellbeing to Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people. Children worked with their elders and with school
support to produce a body of work in poetry, prose, song, dance or storytelling
and some of these will be recorded online.
ILF has gifted a beautiful set of books to each school to use as a reference for
Treasures at My Place. These books provided an invaluable resource, showing
how other writers have written about their lives and where they come from. These
titles include: The Arrival by Shaun Tan, Stellaluna by Janell
Cannon, My Island Home by Neil Murray, My Home in Kakadu by Jane
Christenson, How Frogmouth Found Her Home by Ambelin Kwaymullina and My
Place by Sally Morgan.
